Folk and Locus Exhibition

Mon, 5 Feb 10am – Sat, 23 Mar 3pm | St Johns Church Highbridge TA9 3HS

Artist and poet Sally Light, launches a new immersive exhibition at St. John’s Church this February. She stitches together the oral traditions and cultural heritage of her experiences as a mender at Foxes Mill, Wellington, with her deep sense of place captured in digital images. The show combines the song of the loom, leat, and countryside through audio sampling, poetry readings, and prints on cloth.

Sally won a bursary with Somerset Art Works in 2023 and won the opportunity to work with Sami Green Creative in 2024 as part of the Folk and Locus project, for early career artists. Support from Somerset Film and Daniel Birch Music has enabled the production of a new audio composition that mixes field recordings with her poetry.

Funding for the Folk and Locus exhibitions has been awarded by Somerset Community Foundation.

This event is free and does not require tickets.

It is advisable to check the church website before your trip to ensure you do not clash with church services or events.
